Part 1: Updates from the CDC Division of Oral Health
This session will provide updates from CDC’s Division of Oral Health. We will give an update on CDC infection prevention and control (IPC) guidelines applicable to all healthcare personnel. We will provide an overview of the CDC’s process for updating the Guidelines for Infection Control in Dental Health-Care Settings - 2003 document, including a summary of content received from the OSAP listening sessions on feedback on the guideline update process, and discuss next steps in the IPC guideline development process. We will also describe the importance of proper oral hygiene practices for the prevention of pneumonia in hospital settings and review CDC resources on pneumonia prevention.

Part 2: What Is the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) and What Does It Do?
Attendees will learn about what NIOSH is and what NIOSH does. A few NIOSH projects relating to health and exposures among dental workers will be briefly discussed.

Michele Neuburger, DDS, MPH
Dr. Neuburger is a dental officer in CDC’s Division of Oral Health where she focuses on issues related to infection prevention and control and dental public health. She holds a Doctor of Dental Surgery degree from the University of Michigan School of Dentistry and a Master of Public Health degree from the Rollins School of Public Health, Emory University. In addition, she completed a dental public health residency and a research fellowship at CDC and is a Diplomate of the American Board of Dental Public Health.

Suzanne Tomasi, DVM, MPH, DACVPM
Dr. Suzanne Tomasi is a 2005 graduate of The Ohio State University (OSU) College of Veterinary Medicine. She spent her early years working as a small animal practitioner. In 2013, she pursued a Master of Public Health with a specialization in veterinary public health. She furthered her credentials by becoming a Diplomate of the American College of Veterinary Preventive Medicine. After graduate school, she was accepted into the CDC epidemiology fellowship as an Epidemic Intelligence Service (EIS) Officer and matched with the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health (NIOSH) in the Respiratory Health Division. She currently works at NIOSH as a epidemiologist with a focus on occupational health among healthcare workers which includes dental and veterinary personnel.
