In today’s landscape, emergency preparedness is essential for dental healthcare personnel. This course equips participants with the critical knowledge, practical skills, and confidence to respond effectively to high-risk situations, including active shooter incidents. Utilizing the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) model, attendees will explore the specific risks and challenges posed by such events in dental settings. The training focuses on proactive safety measures, threat response strategies, and effective coordination with emergency personnel. Additionally, participants will learn essential post-incident recovery techniques to support staff, patients, and practice continuity.

LEARNING OBJECTIVES:

  1. Identify the defining characteristics of an active shooter incident and the unique risks within healthcare and dental environments.
  2. Apply the Avoid, Deny, Defend (ADD) framework to enhance situational awareness and response in a dental practice.
  3. Demonstrate effective communication and collaboration with emergency responders and law enforcement during and after a crisis.
  4. Implement post-incident support strategies to assist staff and patients in emotional, psychological, and operational recovery.

With a distinguished law enforcement career spanning several decades, Chief Lash has been instrumental in advancing public safety initiatives, strengthening community partnerships, and implementing innovative policing strategies.
A graduate of Pennsylvania State University and the Northwestern University Center for Public Safety School of Police Staff and Command, Chief Lash is dedicated to professional development and progressive leadership. He is a certified instructor in Civilian Response to Active Shooter Events (CRASE) and has served as an incident commander for critical incidents, including active shooter situations. His expertise in law enforcement administration, crime prevention, and emergency response has helped shape the NYCRPD into a model for modern policing.

Under Chief Lash’s leadership, the NYCRPD continues to uphold its mission of delivering high-quality, proactive law enforcement services. His strategic vision prioritizes officer training, technology integration, and community engagement, ensuring a safer environment for residents and businesses alike.

Chief Lash is the incoming President of the Pennsylvania Chiefs of Police Association and serves on the Pennsylvania Law Enforcement Accreditation Commission, where he contributes to the advancement of policing standards across the state. He is also an active member of several key public safety initiatives, including:
