Enrique Acosta Gio, DDS, PhD
Enrique Acosta-Gio DDS, PhD, is a tenured Professor at the National University of Mexico (UNAM). Since 1985, he has lectured on immunology and microbiology and is head of Infection Control and Occupational Safety at UNAM’s School of Dentistry. He is the principal investigator of grants to improve education, compliance, and monitoring of Infection Control and Patient Safety in dental clinics.
In 2005, he collaborated with the PanAmerican Health Organization in drafting a strategy to scale the involvement of oral health providers in the public health response to HIV. He participated in the expert panel convened by the US Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to explore ways to integrate rapid HIV testing into routine dental care. In 2010, he collaborated in the expert world group convened by the WHO to draft the Multi-Profession Curricular Guide on Patient Safety.
He served as a member of the International Editorial Board of the Journal of the American Dental Association. Since 1992, he has been a member of the Association for Dental Safety (ADS) and served 1998-2008 on the ADS Foundation’s Board of Directors. He is the recipient of the Dr. James A. Cottone Award for Investigative Research in Dental Infection Control and Safety (2004), and the Dr. James J. Crawford Award for Lifetime Achievement (2010).
He has written review articles and editorials for Spanish-language dental journals. He conducts research on Infection Control and Patient Safety. His research findings have been published in Infection and Immunity, Journal of Infectious Diseases, Journal of Clinical Laboratory Analysis, British Journal of Dermatology, Oral Surgery Oral Medicine and Oral Pathology, Archives of Oral Biology, Infection Control and Hospital Epidemiology, American Journal of Infection Control, Journal of the American Dental Association, International Dental Journal, International Journal of Paediatric Dentistry, AIDS Research and Human Retroviruses, Journal of Dental Education, AIDS Pat Care and STD’s, Journal of Hospital Infection, Frontiers.
He qualified as a dental surgeon in 1978 at UNAM and received postgraduate training at the Eastman Dental Hospital and Institute of Dental Surgery, Department of Oral Medicine. In 1985, the University of London awarded him a PhD degree in Immunology.

Liliana Donatelli, BS, MBA, MPH, CDIPC
Liliana Junqueira de P. Donatelli is a biologist graduated from the University of São Paulo (USP). She holds a Master’s degree in Public Health from the Medical School of Botucatu (FMB-UNESP) and further specialized in Biosafety at the Oswaldo Cruz Foundation. Since 2010, she has been a proud member of the Association for Dental Safety, (ADS) and is responsible for managing the Brazilian section in the international area of the website www.myads.org.
Ms. Donatelli has served as a substitute professor at the Medical School of Botucatu (FMB-UNESP), teaching courses in Public Health and Occupational Health. She also contributes as an invited lecturer in postgraduate programs, specializing in Dental Infection Prevention and Control. In 2021, she became the first Brazilian to achieve the ADS/DANB Certification in Dental Infection Prevention and Control.
For over 23 years, she has coordinated the Cristófoli Biosafety Project in Dentistry, conducting more than 900 courses and lectures nationally and internationally. Her expertise has impacted tens of thousands of professionals, including dentists, oral health assistants, dental technicians, health surveillance inspectors, tattoo artists, body piercers, manicurists, podiatrists, and Cristófoli’s employees.
In 2011, Ms. Donatelli launched the BLOG BIOSSEGURANÇA, an interactive platform created to disseminate news and educational content related to health, beauty, and body art (tattoos and piercings), as well as infection control. The blog has received over six million visits to date and has been recognized with the prestigious TopBlog Awards in Brazil: 1st place (popular jury) in 2013 and 1st place (academic jury) in 2012, both in the Health category.
A prolific writer, Ms. Donatelli has been recognized in articles as one of Brazil’s foremost leaders in dental infection control. As part of her work with the Cristófoli Biosafety Project, she has authored numerous publications for the general public and professionals, including the Biosafety Manual in Dentistry, now in its 4th edition. Always at the forefront of innovation, she launched the Biosafety Project for the Beauty and Body Art sectors in 2008, delivering educational programs tailored for beauty professionals and developing sterilization protocols for manicurists. She has also created instructional videos such as Biosafety Tips in Dentistry and Beauty and Health in Your Hands: 4 Sterilization Steps for Beauty Salons.
In 2014, Ms. Donatelli pioneered the “A Window for Biosafety” Project, which includes a dedicated sterilization room and studio designed for webinars and online consultations. Additionally, in 2016, she created DICE – Dental Infection Control Evaluator, an educational game presented at the ADS Annual Conference in San Diego.
Ms. Donatelli is the coordinator of GerAÇÃO Biossegurança, a group of Brazilian experts specializing in dental infection control. She also led the Brazilian review of Chris H. Miller’s book Infection Control and Management of Hazardous Materials for the Dental Team (6th Edition, 2018), published by Elsevier. In 2019, she spearheaded the introduction of DICAM – SETBIO, a nationwide initiative to raise awareness about infection control practices in dentistry during Biosafety Month in Brazil (September).
She received the Bette and Paul Schwartz Award in 2019 and again contributed to winning the James Cottone Award as a co-author and presenter at the 2023 ADS Annual Conference. In 2024, Ms. Donatelli was honored with the Biossegurança Award at the SETBIO 2024 event.
In addition to her individual achievements, she organized the visit of the Association for Dental Safety (ADS) to Brazil during the CIOSP 2025, facilitating the introduction of the organization to the Brazilian dental community, thus strengthening the international exchange of knowledge and best practices in infection control.
Beyond her professional accolades, she is an educator in postgraduate dental programs and contributes to shaping dental education through her involvement in the Dental Infection Prevention and Control Program Suggestions for Dental Schools.

Letícia Quirino Pantoja, DDS, Ms, PhD
Letícia L Quirino Pantoja is a dentist graduated in University of Brasília in 2001. She holds Master’s and Doctor’s degrees in Health Science from Post Graduate Program in Helath Sciences of University Brasília. She also holds a post graduate title of Health Regulatory Specialist from Oswaldo Bruz Foundation. She is a proud global member of Association for Dental Safety.
In 2007 she joined Brazilian Health Regulatory Agency (Anvisa) as a Health Regulatory Specialist Since 2011, she has worked in the regulation and sanitary control of health services, especially dental services.
In 2020 Ms Pantoja and collegues coordinated a Project at Anvisa to improve Health Risk Management in dental services in Brazil. Since then, they have developed several initiatives to encourage the adoption of the best practices to improve Patient Safety and the quality of services in this country. Among the initiatives presented, in 2025 Anvisa is implementing health regulations at federal level for dental services, including the establishment of standards for processing medical devices and safety requirements.
