Produced without a voice track, the If Saliva Were Red video uses visual rather than verbal cues to stress the need for procedure-specific dental infection control. The video uses real dental health care personnel to highlight:

• common dental infection control and safety flaws,
• the cross-contamination dental workers would see if saliva were red, and
• how controlling contamination by using personal barrier protection, safe work practices, and effective infection control products, reduces the risk of exposure.

To complete the course and earn CE credit, learners must:

1. Watch the If Saliva Were Red video and review the How to Tell the Story: A Facilitator's Guide (available in English, Spanish, and Portuguese)
2. Review the Resources & References
3. Complete the Assessment (requires a passing score of 70%)
4. Complete the Evaluation

LEARNING OBJECTIVES

After completing this course, learners should be able to:

• List several examples of cross-contamination observed during the video.
• Describe potential solutions to remedy the areas of cross-contamination identified.
• Identify appropriate personal protective equipment required for routine dental procedures.
• Explain how a combination of barriers, work practices, and engineering controls can reduce contamination.
