Arthur Jeske, DMD, PhD

Dr. Arthur Jeske graduated with a Ph.D. degree (Pharmacology) and D.M.D. degree from the Medical College of Georgia.  He has been a faculty member and administrator at the University of Texas School of Dentistry at Houston since 1978, where he teaches local anesthesia and dental therapeutics.  He is a general dentist and has been in practice since 1979.  He is a member of the Greater Houston Dental Society, the Texas Dental Association, and the American Dental Association (ADA), and chaired the ADA's Council on Scientific Affairs in 2004.  He is a member of the Pierre Fauchard Academy, Omicron Kappa Upsilon, and holds Fellowship in the American and International Colleges of Dentists.

JC Shirley, DMD, MS, MSc

Jay Shirley is the Director of Oral Health Research and Advocacy at Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta. He was previously Chief of the Division of Dentistry, and during his 27 years at Children’s, he built a team of clinicians and support personnel to address the oral health needs of children with complex medical conditions and special healthcare needs. He is the founding program director of the pediatric dentistry residency program. Dr. Shirley is an Adjunct Associate Professor of Pediatrics at Emory University School of Medicine and consultant to the Navy Postgraduate Dental School in Bethesda, Maryland. Jay retired from the US Navy Reserves with 32 years of service and held several clinical and senior executive leadership positions, including Commanding Officer of a 150-bed field hospital. He was recalled to active duty several times, including in 2017 to serve as the Command Surgeon for U.S. Marine Forces Europe and Africa in Germany. In January 2019, he was recalled to active duty for 18 months and assigned to the Office of the Corps Chiefs at the Navy Bureau of Medicine and Surgery Headquarters in the Washington, DC area. He is the past president of the American Board of Pediatric Dentistry and the Georgia Academy of Pediatric Dentistry. Throughout his career, he has been involved in healthcare safety, quality improvement, and regulation. In 2022, he was appointed by the Governor to a five-year term on the Georgia Board of Dentistry. He serves on the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) Healthcare Infection Control Practices Dental Waterlines Workgroup and is a consultant to the Commission on Dental Accreditation. He completed a pediatric dentistry residency at the University of Alabama-Birmingham. Jay also received a master’s degree in Health Policy from the London School of Economics and Political Science and a master’s degree in Public Policy from the University of Chicago. He recently completed the Senior Executive Fellow program at the Harvard University John F. Kennedy School of Government.

Joel White, DDS, MS

Dr. Joel White received his dental degree in 1983 from the Ohio State University and his master’s degree in dental materials in 1985 from the University of Michigan. 

Dr. White is Professor in the Department of Preventive and Restorative Dental Sciences, in the School of Dentistry at the University of California, San Francisco. Dr. White is a full-time faculty, clinician, educator and dental scientist.

He has practiced as a general dentist for 40 years, serving the oral health needs of 5 generations of patients.

Dr. White is educating his second generation of predoctoral dental students at UCSF. He is a dedicated educator, student advocate and mentor and is internationally recognized for teaching general dentistry, preparing dental students for clinical care as well as educating and supervising clinical care provided by general dentistry residents at UCSF. 

He is active in applied, clinical and translational team science research.  His work focuses on dental diagnosis, risk assessment, highly preventive, minimally invasive, evidence-based dentistry supported by clinical practice guidelines, clinical decision support, dental informatics and quality metrics, patient safety, oral health disparities and artificial intelligence in dentistry. 

Madeline Powers, MPH

Madeline Powers is a CSTE Applied Epidemiology Fellow within the Healthcare-Associated Infections/Antibiotic Resistance Programs & Partnerships Unit at the Minnesota Department of Health. Her fellowship projects focus on dental antibiotic stewardship, analysis of Medicare Part D antibiotic prescribing data, and antibiotic stewardship community engagement initiatives. She received her Master of Public Health with a concentration in Biostatistics from Purdue University.

Marie Fluent, DDS, CDIPC

Dr. Fluent is a graduate of the University of Michigan School of Dentistry. Her dental career spans 35 years and includes roles as dentist, both as an associate and practice owner, infection control coordinator, office manager, and dental assistant. Additionally, she has extensive experience and expertise as a dental inflection control clinical instructor, educator, speaker, author, and consultant. Dr. Fluent is passionate and deeply committed to improving dental infection control and patient safety. Through her writing, webinars, and invited lectures, she has educated thousands of dental professionals and students nationally and internationally. Dr. Fluent has written numerous peer-reviewed articles on infection control in the dental setting, OSHA compliance, and responsible antibiotic prescribing. She has also earned the CDIPC certification.
